The New American Dream is a nonprofit organization with the main goal of bringing about environmental and social justice to the globe. Their mission statement starts as follows. It is what I have been looking for in a nonprofit organization, an organization dedicated to bring about social and environmental justice to the world.
Their goal is that every human being on earth has a right to basic necessities. These basic necessities are clean water, healthy food, adequate clothing, shelter, health care, and education. All these needs can be met in an environmentally sustainable way. They have a membership of 143,000 and growing. They act as a channel for other like minded nonprofits organization also.
On their website I found one of these organization known as Alternative Gift Idea, another great nonprofit. Alternative Gift Idea is an organization that attempts to foster environmental consciousness and social justice through unique gift giving. They too are a channel for many smaller organizations that are struggling to better the lives of some of the neediest people in the world and also are trying to restore and preserve the environment.
They sponsor organization as such as Standproud which is an agency that is working with handicapped children in war torn Congo in Africa. They offer polio treatment to these children and also fit them with orthopedic braces. The organization helps these children to attend regular schools and to not be discriminated upon. So here are some examples of earth friendly Christmas gifts. You can purchase a gift card for someone in your life interested in these issues to help out these organizations. Another example Is Lutheran World Relief Organization That is working with farmers in the Philippines. Many areas in the Philippines that used to be forests have been cleared for farming because of the doubling in number of the population and the need for more farmland.
